The Sari is Back in Fashion in Pakistan

The sari is back in fashion in Pakistan, especially among the urban elite, nearly three decades after it went out of vogue due to the conservative policies followed by former dictator Zia-ul Haq. The popularity of Indian TV dramas such as Kyonki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahin Tu Hoga, Kumkum and Kahani Ghar Ghar ki among Pakistani women has lead to an increasing trend of wearing saris and has played a major role in setting a new fashion trend in the country.

20 years ago, one eminent Indian journalist was surprised to find one sari shop called Benares Sari House in Karachi, for he had very rarely seen ladies in Pakistan wearing saris.

But today in 2010, there are hundreds of textile emporia in Pakistani cities, (ranging from Butt Sari Boutique in Peshawar –Mohsins of Rawalpindi, Resham ghar of Islamabad and the Palki of Lahore) selling saris, from exquisite Parsi garas to Benarasi saris famed for its gold and silver brocade.

Bollywood Fashion Lara Dutta

bollywood fashion-Lara Dutta
Lara Dutta has always been known for her chic and glamorous style. The dusky diva looked every inch a fashionista in this white lace top and antique jewellery. Quite an interesting combination, we think. Lara also sports the season's hottest trend - fuchsia nails! The colour looks so hot on Lara's talons that we wouldn't mind devouring those va va voom fingers

Dubai Fashion Week

If the first day of the Dubai Fashion Week spring-summer 2010 was blingtastic, the second day relied on sophistication and subtlety to push it forward. Leading the fashion fray was the Saudi designer Hatem Al Akeel. He was consummate in paying homage to simplicity and made the thobes appear as the most masculine garment to sport. The much-anticipated unveiling of Christian Louboutin's men's shoes stepped up the glamour quotient. But it was disappointing to see only two pairs of Louboutin for males make it to the runway. Designer-duo of the label Kanzi (the Arabic word for treasure) — Shaikha Amal Al Maktoum and Raghda Taryam — gave great shape and form to reams and reams of black billowing silk. The collection titled Fairytales ended on a happy note. A model waltzing onto the runway in a white glittering gown with a bouffant skirt made for a perfect Cinderella. The fantastical land also gave way to some racy clothes.

The Jordanian Queen Rania's Fashion

The Jordanian Queen Rania has been turned into a royal fashion model, while the Jordanian people are dying of poverty, cold and hunger, and are kept in abject misery by the regime. The crass invoices paid by the Queen Rania in the jewelry and fashion
shops in the UK and other places around the world are not logical or rational if we take into consideration that Jordan depends almost completely on external financial aid, and that the majority of Jordanian people live under miserable conditions of poverty because the royalty blows whatever money they get for useless luxury. Anyone who sees Queen Rania wearing her luxurious clothes and talking about education and human rights could believe that Jordan is a paradise, but the sad fact is that most Jordanian women and people live in an abject level because of political neglect, poverty and unemployment, and wanton arrests and torture are the rule in Jordan. No wonder that the Jordanian regime produces extremists and suicide bombers. The continued violations of the dignity and human rights of the people, combined with poverty and hunger, are a fertile ground for producing extremists anywhere in the world, not only Jordan.
